As a big fan of the original, Lin-Manuel Miranda would ensure not to screw up writing new songs for The Little Mermaid.
The go-to artist for musicals in recent years is the writer/creator of the newest sensation, Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda. The esteemed songwriter has been behind such music for films like In the Heights, Moana, Encanto, and more. Miranda has been given carte blanche by Disney to update or welcome new additions to their soundtracks of these adaptations. Miranda, according to Empire, is a huge fan of the original 1989 animation film, The Little Mermaid. When given the task of writing new music for the adaptation of the live-action, Miranda made sure to not drop the ball, by appointing him the “Head Of The Don’t Fuck It Up Committee.” Miranda told Empire that when he was asked to be involved in the Rob Marshall reimagining, I said, “I will sign on to I am the Chairman of the “Don’t Fuck it Up” committee. I’ll weigh in when I think that you’re fuckin it up!” Miranda wanted to keep the magic of the 1989 music in the film by working with Menkin. Howard Ashmen and Alan Menken composed the original film. “I said, ‘Happy write new lyrics if you need them. If they don’t want them, I won’t. I don’t want to force
into a song no one wants to listen to because they want to go straight to ‘Under The Sea.’ I am[in] this person! ‘GET ON with ‘UNDER the Sea ‘!'”When Miranda talked about how he became obsessed with the original film when it premiered, he emphasized that his life changed when he said to Empire, “I just
