Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried headline this twisty drama that keeps you guessing every single episode.

A captivating thriller told through a series of interviews with curious interrogator Rya Goodwin, Danny’s life story unfolds, revealing elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-altering revelation.

Review: Every person is the sum of their life experiences. Some people can use their past experiences to create a fulfilling life, while others can be influenced by them to make decisions which can change the course of their lives. The story of Danny Sullivan begins when he is caught committing a crime. He must pay for it, and this reveals elements of his life which are revealed throughout the course of The crowded room. With a leading turn from Tom Holland that cements him as one of the best young actors working today alongside solid performances from Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum, Christopher Abbott, Sasha Lane, Emma Laird, Jason Isaacs, and more, The Crowded Room is an emotionally gut-wrenching series that has countless twists and turns as it takes its audience on a rollercoaster of a mystery.

Created by Akiva Goldsman, writer of A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man on one end of his resume with Batman & Robin, The Dark Tower, and Transformers: The Last Knight on the other, The Crowded Room is a difficult series to review. I can discuss the performances, the talented actors, and my emotional reaction to watching the series. There is still so much to the story that I won’t reveal, as it would ruin anyone’s experience. I can tell that Goldsman was inspired by the non-fiction book (yes, it is real) The minds of Billy Milligan written by Daniel Keyes. If you search for this book, you’ll understand what to expect from The Crowded Room. The trailer alone made me suspect the truth of this series. I’m sure I’m not the only one. The quality of the series is not affected by whether you already know the truth or are a newcomer. Ariana (Sasha Lane) encourages us to learn about Danny’s new family, which includes his mother Candy (Emmy Rossum) and stepfather Marlin. After being arrested, Danny meets with Rya (Amanda Seyfried), a detective who is trying to find out how Danny became involved in the murder plot. He is the only person in custody. Danny is supported in court by Rya, and Stan Camisa’s (Christopher Abbott) lawyer. Rya and Stan meet with Danny regularly and investigate how he fell in with a group that includes Yitzak Safdie (Lior Raz) and Jack Lamb (Jason Isaacs) as they try to exonerate Danny from the charges against him.

The ten-episode series evokes the late 1970s in the fashion and style of the time. The dialogue-heavy focus in

The Clogged Room gives each actor a lot to work with. Jason Isaacs is dressed as a James Bond surrogate, and Tom Holland has a messy mop of a hairstyle. Amanda Seyfried is given one of the more restrained roles, while Christopher Abbott has a role that allows him to stretch a little bit as a veteran with PTSD and also an attorney. Emmy Rossum’s age was a big deal when she joined the project, as she is only ten-years older than Tom Holland. However, the talented actress evokes a strength far beyond her years in Candy Sullivan. Emma Laird does a great job as Isabel, but Tom Holland is the best in this series. Cherry, Holland’s last AppleTV+ project, was designed to showcase the actor’s range, but he is astounding in this series. Holland delivers a performance that is a testament to his talent. I won’t spoil the series but he hits every emotion an actor could possibly need. It is quite something to see.Ultimately, what Akiva Goldsman and his writing team strove for with

The Crowded Room was not to ape the cliches or formulas of similar stories told over the years. Goldsman’s team is unable to avoid melodrama, even when the series’ core themes begin to emerge after a few episodes. The subject matter is heavy, but The crowded room manages to keep the hope alive. The production design of the series and the direction of the filmmakers, such as directors Kornel Mundruczo, Mona Fastvold Brady Corbet and Alan Taylor, are largely responsible for this. The series is given a grounded, realistic look that never falters in the most difficult scenes. The story also includes some inspiring and triumphant elements. The music by Travis Gureckis is also a nice addition. Tom Holland is still as good as ever, and remains one of few actors who can portray both a teenager and adult without any make-up. The Crowded Room will rank with the best of Akiva Goldsman’s filmography, even if it doesn’t quite work. It also ranks alongside his most acclaimed movie, which follows a similarly thematic journey. The Crowded Room

, a limited series that features great performances by all involved, is a solid one. Once you watch the whole series, you may be tempted to go back and revisit it from the beginning and will not be disappointed at how well everything has been assembled. The Crowded Room premieres on June 9th on AppleTV+.7
