Univeral is giving the 1978 shark thriller Jaws 2, the most well-regarded Jaws sequel, a 4K UHD release for its 45th anniversary
2023 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it HERE), the most well-regarded of the Jaws sequels – and Universal is celebrating the occasion by giving the film a 4K UHD release! The Jaws 2 4K UHD will be available on July 4th, which seems like a fitting date since the first Jaws is a Fourth of July classic. Copies can be pre-ordered at THIS LINK.
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc from a screenplay written by Carl Gottlieb and Howard Sackler, Jaws 2 has the following synopsis: It’s been four years since that marauding great white shark terrorized the small summer resort of Amity; but the shark that Police Chief Brody destroyed wasn’t the only one in the ocean! The same heart-stopping suspense and gripping adventure that enthralled movie audiences throughout the world in Jaws returns in this worthy sequel to that film classic.
The film stars Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton, Joseph Mascolo, Jeffrey Kramer, Collin Wilcox, Ann Dusenberry, Mark Gruner, Susan French, Barry Coe, Gary Springer, Donna Wilkes, Gary Dubin, John Dukakis, G. Thomas Dunlop, David Elliott, Marc Gilpin, Keith Gordon, Cynthia Grover, Ben Marley, Martha Swatek, Billy Van Zandt, Gigi Vorgan, Fritzi Jane Courtney, Al Wilde, Cyprian R. Dube, Jerry M. Baxter, Jean Coulter, Christine Freeman, Herb Muller, David Owsley, and Susan Owsley McMillan.
The 4K UHD release of Jaws 2 will contain the following bonus features: Deleted Scenes – The Making of Jaws 2 – Jaws 2: A Portrait by Actor Keith Gordon – John Williams: The Music of Jaws 2 – The “French” Joke – Storyboards – Theatrical Trailers – Optional English SDH, Spanish, Danish, Finnish, French Canadian, French European, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin American Spanish, Norwegian, and Swedish subtitles for the main feature
If those bonus features sound familiar, it’s because they’ve been around since the 2001 DVD release. A long-lost scene from the film was recently unearthed on a Brazilian VHS, but it doesn’t look like that scene will be added to this 4K UHD disc.
