Timothee Chalamet becomes a young version of the legendary Candy Man, Willy Wonka, in the new Wonka trailer.

Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker. An official Wonka trailer is here, and the Candy Man’s fashion sense has never been slicker. Come, come all and feast your eyes upon Timothee Chalamet as Willy Wonka. A man of taste and not-so quiet rage, Willy Wonka is a maker of delectable sweets. Paddington 2‘s Paul King directs the peculiar prequel he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby, based on the story and characters by Roald Dahl.

Wonka focuses on a young Willy Wonka and how he met the Oompa-Loompas on one of his earliest adventures. The prequel about the peculiar chocolatier features an A-list cast, with Olivia Colman (Secret Invasion, The Favourite), Hugh Grant (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Notting Hill), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Blue Jasmine), Keegan-Michael Key (The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Predator), and Rowan Atkinson (Johnny English, The Lion King, Bean) starring alongside Chalamet. Ellie White and Matt Lucas are also in the cast, along with Jim Carter, Rich Fulcher Mathew Baynton Peterson Joseph, Natasha Rothwell Simon Farnaby Tracy Ifeachor. Neil Hannon of the band, The Divine Comedy, is in charge of writing original songs for the film.

In today’s Wonka trailer, Timothee Chalamet’s Willy Wonka has sugarplums dancing in his head as he dreams of opening a candy shop in the big city. After an “Eureka”-moment, the eccentric chocolateier devises plans to create treats that have never been seen before. Willy must be on his toes to win the title of world’s greatest candy connoisseur. The Chocolate Cartel is watching him at all times. The Wonka trailer also offers a glimpse of Hugh Grant as a chatty Oompa-Loompa. With his spirited flute and sweet dance moves, the orange-skinned minion will surely bring plenty of humor to this delightful-looking origin story.
