Asteroid City, a quirky comedy, is soon to be released in cinemas. We decided to rank Wes Anderson’s films. Where do your favorite fall?
Asteroid City, continues this trend with his usual blend of production designs taking center stage in his movies. Where do Wes Anderson’s films rank when you look back at his filmography?This is the only anthology film Anderson has made so far. It details the final issue
The French Dispatch. The paper is closing down, so the editor gathers his best reporters and writers to publish one last edition. Each reporter narrates their section of the film while they discuss what story to tell. Anderson’s style is broken down a bit for each segment, but he still maintains the quirky attitude that he uses in most of his work. A fun way to break one of his films down. After a year, the brothers are finally reunited on a trip with their mother. The siblings realize that they have not been happy in their lives as they try to determine what each has taken away from the death of their father. The brothers are constantly being sent off in random directions by the train. The actors who play the brothers, Adrian Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson, do a great job, but the story is too erratic. Asteroid City (2023)This is Anderson’s biggest cast to date. We see some new performers to his usual group. Tom Hanks joins the group, along with Scarlett Johanssen and Bryan Cranston. Steve Carell also joins. A small roadside attraction called Asteroid City attracts a variety visitors during the Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet events. A spaceship arrives while the scientists are presenting their usual material and a group of young inventors are displaying their gadgets. The whole area is thrown into a frenzy and the families are trying to figure out the meaning of it all in the days following.
A nderson’s first film, starring Luke Wilson and Owen Wilson. When Anthony (Luke Wilson), who has just been released from a mental institution, reconnects with Dignan (Owen Wilson). He tells Anthony that he needs Anthony to help him pull off a heist on behalf of his mysterious boss, Mr. Henry. Anthony falls in love with Inez, the maid of the motel as they prepare for the heist. This film helped Anderson and the Wilson Brothers become known during the slow indie boom of 1990s. This film does not have the visual style Anderson is known for, but it still has some quirky characteristics that would continue to be present in his other work.
W Bill Murray stars as Steve Zissou. He is a documentary filmmaker who makes aquatic films in the style of Jaques Cousteau. Steve declares that he will find and kill a shark after it kills his filmmaking partner and friend. He gathers a team to go on the trip, but soon discovers that he has a child he didn’t know about. He invites his son along with a journalist to cover the shark hunt. He has to juggle learning to be a father, finding the shark and sparring over the reporter’s love with his son. Mr. Fox has a history of stealing from local farmers, but he must put this behind him in order to be a good dad to his children. He wants to steal one more time from three of the most vicious farmers in the area before he puts an end to his wild ways. He gathers his friends together to see if he can score one more score. The two children decide to leave together, but don’t know that a huge storm is coming to their small town within a few days. When their guardians discover what happened, they go out to find them before the storm. Sam could be sent away if he is found. Once everyone leaves, the relationships become complicated. Anderson’s fun film explores how love can push us to do things that we wouldn’t otherwise consider. In 1932, Zero is a lobby boy who learns from Gustave, the hotel’s dedicated concierge. They strive to make the guest’s stay a pleasant experience. Gustave is blamed for the death of one of his guests. Zero and his friends are determined to clear Gustave’s name and find out what happened to the famous painting that the son of a deceased person is searching for. The Anderson way of running a hotel is a fun and quirky one. To prevent the virus from spreading to humans it is decided to send all canines to Trash Island. Atari decides six months later to go to the island and rescue his beloved pet. Once he lands on the island, a group of friendly dogs offer to help him find his pet and fend away a rescue party that was sent by his Uncle.
The Tenenbaum Children were all geniuses. These early gifts were lost when their mother and father separated, and the Tenenbaum family became a dysfunctional mess. Royal Tenenbaum has gathered the entire family to tell them that he has only six weeks to live. The same tensions, squabbles and betrayals return to their lives once everyone is under the same roof. Royal wants to make everything right before his time runs out, but isn’t certain he can. It’s no surprise that this is one of Wes Anderson’s best films. He falls in love with the new teacher and befriends a businessman from the area. He finds out, as he tries his best to impress everyone else, that two of his new friends are in love. When he takes measures to impress his teacher, he is expelled from school. From there, he must find a way to get back his friends and figure out what he wants to do with his life. Comment below.
