Olyphant, who was once a frontrunner for Iron Man’s role, talks about his close call with James T. Kirk.

The role of James T. Kirk was a highly sought-after one for many young actors in the 2009 reboot Star trek. Chris Pratt did not succeed in his audition but he went on to become the captain of a different spaceship in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Chris Hemsworth was not successful in landing the role. However, he did land the part of George Kirk, Captain Kirk’s father. Chris Pine ended up in the captain’s seat, but actor Timothy Olyphant recently revealed that, like Iron Man, he nearly had the role, except this time, his age was working against him.According to Deadline, Olyphant appeared on the latest episode of the

Happy Sad Confused podcast, and he revealed that he wasn’t even out to audition for Kirk when he was almost given the role. Olyphant said, “Here’s what i can tell you about Star Trek. I went in and I auditioned, not for Captain Kirk but I remember reading to J.J. Abrams, and he was just a lovely, nice guy. It was a beautiful, lovely audition. I auditioned for Doc and he said, “I already have a guy to play Doc. I don’t need your help.” But I don’t have a Kirk.'”Olyphant continues that his age was the main issue working against him.

“I believe it was a situation where they were willing to hire me but wanted someone younger. had a hard time finding anyone younger. And somewhere along the line, J.J. called and said, ‘I found a guy, younger, who’s really good.'”[Abrams]As harsh as it sounded, the

Justified star knew it wasn’t something personal against him, and even professed his admiration for Chris Pine. I have met Chris Pine since then and I am both a fan on and off-screen. I love that guy. He’s a nice guy. I was honored, or we’ll say honored, to attend the Golden Globes in one year… I spent the majority of the evening with Chris Pine at the bar. I adored Chris Pine. What a nice guy. He’s one of those guys who makes it look simple and easy.” He’s one of those guys who makes it look simple and easy.”He would conclude the anecdote with some kind words for Abrams,

“Auditioning sucks and the fact that I remember the audition process fondly says a lot about J.J. Abrams and what a wonderful man that guy is.”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qmPWsfens8
