The novel Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus will give us a look at the life of Eddie Munson two years before Stranger Things season 4
Fans of the Netflix series Stranger Things really fell for the Eddie Munson character over the course of the show’s fourth season, and when he started playing Metallica on his guitar while in the Upside Down, it instantly ranked up there as one of the most iconic moments in the entire series. Eddie did not survive the season… but we do not know his entire story. Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first look of the cover of an upcoming novel Stranger Things : Flight of Icarus which tells the story of Eddie Munson two years before the events of Season 4. You can take a look at the cover at the bottom of this article.
Penguin Random House will be publishing Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus on Halloween, October 31st. Caitlin Schneiderhan wrote the novel. She was an assistant to Stranger things creators The Duffer Brothers in seasons 2 and 3. She then joined the writing team for season 4. Eddie Munson, however, feels like he’s living in a permanent Tomb of Horrors. He only has a few months left to survive Hawkins High. What is senior year but a way to kill time between Dungeons and Dragons sessions with Hellfire Club, and gigs with Eddie’s band? She left Hawkins to build a wickedly cool career working for a Los Angeles record producer. She is not only a badass with killer music taste, but she may be the only one who sees him for the bard that he really is and not the devil in a suit. But what’s the best part? She’s giving him a chance to make it big, and all he has to do is get her a demo of Corroded Coffins’ best songs. Money Eddie doesn’t have. He’s willing to take any risk, even if it means relying upon his old man Al Munson. It’s a risk, but if it pays off, he will finally have a one-way ticket out of Hawkins. It’s a risk, but if it pays off he will finally have a one-way ticket out of Hawkins.
Eddie can feel it: 1984 is going to be his year.Schneiderhan had this to say about the novel: “
The Eddie Munson we meet at the beginning of
Stranger Things
4 is the protective shepherd to the nerdy lost sheep of Hawkins High. But taking up that mantle was not a simple decision. I’m excited for fans to follow him on his journey to becoming a hero and experience the messy and uncomfortable choices that led him to be the brave misfit that we all love. Eddie is a man who is unfailingly and unapologetically him, which makes him irresistible. Add to that the fact he encourages others to be the same. Who wouldn’t want that guy as a friend? Eddie, this is for you!

Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus sound like a novel you would like to read? Comment below to share your thoughts. I think that some of the appeal to Eddie Munson in this book will be lost, since it is different from watching Joseph Quinn perform as the character. It would be interesting to read (hear) his story.
