Move over, Britney! New pop star turns up the heat and is not afraid to go the distance for what she wants. The HBO Original drama The Idol has released an official teaser. Before you ask, the footage did not cause your thermostat to go off. Lily-Rose Depp’s electrifying performance on sex and fame, as well as the not-so secret lives of pop stars, who shake what their mother gave them, will make you feel the heat. The The Idol trailer is not for the faint-hearted. Consider this your warning.
Debuting Sunday, June 4, 2023, The Idol is co-created by Sam Levison (Euphoria). HBO’s new drama series stars Lily-Rose Depp (Yoga Hosers, Tusk, Voyagers), Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, and Reza Fahim. Troye Sivan (Boy Erased, Sierra Burgess is a Loser), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek, Sex Education), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Dolemite Is My Name, Puss and Boots: The Last Wish), Eli Roth (Inglorious Basterds, Hostel), Hari Nef (Assassination Nation, Barbie), Jane Adams (Happiness, A Series of Unfortunate Events), Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria.
Here’s the official logline for The Idol:
After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s (Lily-Rose Depp) last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Tedros, a nightclub owner with a dark past (Abel “The Weeknd”), reignites her passions. Sam Levinson is back at it, folks!
Euphoria is one of the most daring shows in recent television history, and The Idol looks to test the limits of HBO once again. The Idol Teaser shows a dark world fuelled by money, pleasures in the flesh, superiority issues, and a desire for pop culture to be on fire. Will you be tuning into The Idol? Who is your favorite ’90s Pop Star? Britney Spears? Madonna? Christina Aguilera? Aaliyah or Fiona Apple – who’s your favorite ’90s pop star – and why? Please tell us what you think in the comments.
