Greta Gerwig will write and direct two Chronicles of Narnia films for Netflix. The streamer acquired the property years ago.

Everyone is expecting Greta Gerwig to have a huge hit with Barbie, but it appears that the writer-director will be diving into another major franchise soon. In a New Yorker article about the future of Mattel, Gerwig is mentioned as having at least two Chronicles of Narnia

movies to write and direct for Netflix. Lewis’ classic novels were first published in 2018. The books were previously adapted into a trilogy of films (for which Andrew Garfield was infamously not considered handsome enough). The first film, Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, was a huge hit, grossing $745 million worldwide. The sequel,

Prince Caspian, grossed significantly less, $419 millions. The first two films were made by Disney, but the third movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was made by Fox, which was ironically acquired by Disney afterward. It made about the same amount as Prince Caspian but that was the end of the big-screen franchise. With Barbie getting great buzz, Gerwig is in high demand, so it’s not surprising she’s being given the keys to a big franchise. Her movies have been so popular on the big screen that it’s not surprising she would choose another tentpole. Netflix could also give her the freedom, time and resources she needs to transform these new adaptations. Aslan’s appearance will be much more impressive than it was when Liam Neeson portrayed him. What do you think about Greta Gerwig stepping into the Chronicles Of Narnia
