The horror comedy The Blackening, directed by Tim Story, will be reaching 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital in August
Lionsgate gave director Tim Story’s horror comedy The Blackening a theatrical release on June 16th, with a Premium VOD release following last Friday, July 7th. They have now announced that the digital release will be on August 151001010th. The 4K, DVD, and Blu-ray releases will follow on August 221001010th. The 4K release will come in a bundle with the Bluray and there will be a third combo pack containing the Bluray, DVD and digital release. The Blackening is based on a screenplay written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne perkins. The film was inspired by a Perkins scripted 3Peat sketch that aired in 2018 on Comedy Central. It is about a group of Black friends going away for the weekend, only to be trapped in a cabin where a killer forces them to play a life-or death game. The idea asks a reasonable question: since it seems that Black characters are usually the earliest victims in horror films, what happens when all the characters are Black?Perkins (

Shark Night), Grace Byers (Empire), X Mayo (The Farewell), Melvin Gregg (The Way Back), Jermaine Fowler (The Drop), Yvonne Orji (Insecure), Jay Pharoah (Unsane), James Preston Rogers (Pixels), and Diedrich Bader (Office Space).Lionsgate’s Jason Constantine has said that The Blackening is “a wildly entertaining horror movie that delivers jump-out-of-your-seat scares while also hilariously subverting the genre.” Story and Oliver produced the film with Marcei A. Brown, Jason Clark E. Brian Dobbins and Sharla Sumpter-Bridgett. Vicky Story, Perkins’s associate producer, co-produced the film.
