Ray Stevenson is a Northern Ireland-born, England-raised film and television actor from Lisburn, Northern Ireland. He was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland on 25 May 1964, on a British army base. His father was a British pilot in the Royal Air Force, and his mother is Irish. He is known for playing Titus Pullo in the BBC/HBO television series Rome and in film as Dagonet in King Arthur.
As a child, Stevenson dreamed to become an actor, but he also thought that dream was impossible. So he pursued his other love, art, and went to art school instead. Born in North Ireland, but raised in North-East England, Stevenson commonly attended Saturday matinees at the Newcastle Odeon. Stevenson’s ambition to become an actor was put on hold as he attended art school to pursue a career in interior design. After seeing John Malkovich in Burn This, Stevenson’s acting ambitions reignited and he enrolled in the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Stevenson made his debut in The Theory of Flight with Kenneth Branagh and Helena Bonham Carter, where he played the part of a gigolo hired to help Bonham Carter’s character to lose her virginity.
