Nina Garcia was born Nina Garcia de Castellanos on May 3, 1967 in Barranquilla, Colombia to wealthy importer. Garcia was exposed to fashion and glamour at an early age by her mother. She traveled all around the world as a child with her parents each year. She attended and graduated from the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1983 and holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston University. Later she attended Esmod in Paris and also earned a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising in 1992 from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Garcia began her career in the fashion industry in the early 1980s when she started working in the public relations department for Perry Ellis and later, Marc Jacobs.
Fashion Journalist and TV personality Nina García has held the post of Fashion Director at Elle and Marie Claire magazines, and has been a judge on the Lifetime reality television program Project Runway since its premiere season.
