The ending of John Wick: Chapter 4

is a fitting one for the contract killer’s quest for peace. The first three movies of a movie franchise are usually a trilogy. This is because the three-movie format perfectly captures the beginning, middle, and end of the story. However, when

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum came out, it had a cliffhanger that seemed to set up a final. Parabellum would feature an end sequence at the iconic series location of The Continental, which naturally felt like the perfect thematic location for a finale, but the ultimate conclusion was not satisfying for star Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski. According to ScreenRant Reeves, and Stahelski felt so unsatisfied by the ending they decided to finish it definitively with Chapter 40. Stahelski said in Empire: “We didn’t think we had done our very best. We both felt that we could have ended this series better. We didn’t think we landed well, and that is a very ****y sensation. We love the character, love working together and love the world. I said, “I’d be p***ed” if they ended the entire series that way. I would be p***ed if that was how they ended the whole series. We’re like, “Yeah he has to die.” We had to find the coolest way to do it. We wrote the movie backwards off that one thing.” We wrote the film backwards based on that one thing.”

Of Course, Johnwick: Chapter 4 finally laid the character to rest, but the test audience convinced the filmmakers to make it more ambiguous after a screening. Lionsgate, the studio behind the John Wick[have] films, is now begging for more movies with Keanu. Reeves, as of now, has one more appearance coming up for the character, as Baba Yaga will also make a cameo in the spin-off,

Ballerina, which stars Ana De Armas.Stahelski and Reeves obviously love the character, and although Stahelski listed off names of actors he’d love to work with on a follow-up, the only real plans he has going forward is an extended director’s cut of Chapter 4 that is being planned for a release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX18OwxfDhU
