We interview the cast and creatives of Pixar’s latest animated epic Elemental. It’s about two opposite elements, fire & water, who fall in love.

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to attend an in-person press day for Pixar's

Elemental at the headquarters in San Francisco. I had been there before, but it was for a press day with a long lead. This was different. I was able to speak with several key people about the movie, which was only partially finished when I arrived. How was the movie, first of all? The movie was charming despite the mixed reviews that came out of Cannes. Director Peter Sohn and Pixar did an amazing job animating all the different elements. You see, Elemental-takes places in “Element city,” a world where characters are either Earth, Wind or Fire. Our heroine, Ember, is a fire element (Leah Lewis), who meets and possibly falls in love with a goodhearted water element (Mamoudou Athie). In many ways, Elemental

is Pixar’s version of a romantic comedy, with a bit of social commentary worked in, with it being, at its heart, a story of immigration, albeit a very upbeat, positive one.During the press day, I was lucky enough to speak to the two stars, Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie, who revealed that despite their obvious chemistry, they never actually recorded their lines together, with Sohn, himself a great actor (he voiced Sox in Lightyear

) standing in. I asked them to tell me their favourite Pixar films (how could I resist?). Peter Sohn and Denise Ream were next. Both of them had previously told me about their connection to the project, and this time I opted to focus a bit on how they animated the elements and beyond. You can read my full review for Pixar’s Elemental

tomorrow, but I thought it was a charming little movie. Are you looking forward it? Comment and let us know!
