If you thought artificial intelligence (AI) was a scary concept, how about an AI ‘task force’? That is apparently what Disney has, employing the AI team with a rather intimidating name to cut costs and try to improve their position in the ever-evolving world of technology.
According to sources, The Walt Disney Company has found themselves in a position where they will be forced to use AI at a more advanced rate. The rising cost of productions is the reason for this. For example, their last two major films,
The Haunted Mansion
, had a budget of around $150 million. Meanwhile, Indiana jones and the dial of destiny, was pegged at around $300 million. Both movies used AI technology to de-age Harrison Ford. Both the WGA, and SAG-AFTRA, made AI a focus of their strikes. And who can blame them given what studios planned? Disney’s AI task force was launched before the WGA strike began in May. Imagineers created a fully-functional, free-walking Baby Groot that they wanted to interact with guests. It sounds cute, but we all know what happened in “Itchy and Scratchy Land”, an episode of The Simpsons . Imagine Baby Groot attacking you and your family with a machete. What do you think about Disney creating an AI taskforce? What do you think the company will be doing more often with this technology?
