The animated Netflix series based on the Castlevania video game franchise wrapped up back in 2021 after a four season, 32 episode run – but if you were left wanting to see more Castlevania after watching that show, you’re in luck. Castlevania is getting a spin-off follow-up called Castlevania: Nocturne that’s set to make its Netflix debut on September 28th! The teaser trailer for the upcoming episode is now available online. While the first series drew inspiration from
Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Nocturne is primarily based on the 1993 video game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and its 1997 sequel Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The original Castlevania video game had the following set-up:
Transylvania – a small, peaceful country in the heart of medieval Europe. The people of Transylvania whisper to their children the legend of Dracula at bedtime. They only half believe it to be true. “The forces of goodness keep a watchful gaze over the land and protect all who live here. Even with the constant vigil the forces of evil still manage to triumph once every century. Every time this happens, people with evil hearts start chanting unspeakable prayers. This is Dracula the Prince of Darkness resurrected on the face of the Earth. Dracula’s powers increase each time he manifests. Once, a long time ago, Dracula did indeed appear in this way. However, his ambitions to plunge the world into darkness and build a kingdom of evil were crushed by the hero Christopher Belmont.Following Dracula’s demise at the hands of Christopher Belmont, the Transylvanian countryside slept peacefully for 100 years. One Easter night, the town was celebrating the joyous occasion with a magnificent carnival. In the ruins of an old monastery, on the edge, the followers were holding a Black Mass in order to revive the evil count and give him eternal living. They poured human blood on his remains. A thundercloud engulfed the town as they did this. A single bolt of lightening struck the monastery. Dracula, Prince of Darkness returned to this world in that instant to begin a reign of terror. Simon, the descendant of the Belmont bloodline, was determined to rid his homeland of this evil. Taking the mysterious whip left to him by his father, he ventured into Dracula’s castle to face the Count – alone.Frederator Studios’ Kevin Kolde, the developer of the first series, serves as showrunner on Castlevania: Nocturne
