DC Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Marduena, delighted fans on the CinemaCon main stage, getting them pumped up for the hero’s solo debut.

Last night, Sony dominated the CinemaCon stage with superheroes, Ghostbusters, and Denzel Washington in one of his most brutal films. Warner Bros takes the spotlight today with details and a preview of its upcoming slate. Among several films on display was Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Mariduena as Jaime Reyes, the Latino hero who bonds with a technologically advanced scarab to inherit incredible powers.

During the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon, Xolo Mariduena, Bruna Marquezine, and director Angel Manuel Soto took the stage. Soto says that Blue Beale is unlike other superhero films because Jaime is accompanied by his family throughout the movie, while most superhero movies take a solo journey. The family isn’t just a placeholder. They also have heroic arcs. Xolo claims that his character is the first superhero who has been given powers he didn’t want. Bruna plays Jenny Kord who has access to the Scarab which gives Blue Beetle extra-normal powers. She hides it, and it chooses to use him as its vessel. Soto then showed a longer version of the trailer that focused more on world-building and action. The movie’s 80s-style retro look with synth wave and VHS is more evident here. Funny that this was originally for HBO Max but WB invested tons of money to make it comparable with other big superhero films.
