Billy Ray Cyrus is an American singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known for his number one single “Achy Breaky Heart”, which became the first single ever to achieve triple Platinum status in Australia. It was also the best-selling single in the same country in 1992 and was translated into more than 100 languages.
Cyrus was born on August 25, 1961 in Flatwoods, Kentucky, USA as William Ray Cyrus, to Ron Cyrus, a politician and former steelworker, and his wife, the former Ruth Ann Casto. Cyrus started singing at the age of four. His parents divorced in 1966. He began singing when he was four years old and later on received a baseball scholarship to Georgetown College before pursuing music as a career. He dropped out of college to play music with the band Sly Dog. Cyrus was discovered by Mercury talent scouts in 1990 while opening for a Reba McEntire concert in Louisville, Kentucky.
