We talk to the cast of Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City including Scarlett Johansson and Jason Schwartzman!
Asteroid City, the latest quirky opus from Wes Anderson, tells the story of a very small town in the middle of nowhere that becomes the epicenter of some rather unusual events. Asteroid City, as is typical of Anderson films, is unpredictable, often absurd, and filled with amusingly strange characters played by an impressive list of recognizable faces.
We had the good fortune to be invited to a Asteroid City press junket at New York to speak with some of these recognizable faces who helped us navigate through the peculiar details of Anderson’s latest film:
Longtime colleague Jason Schwartzman is Augie Steenbeck – a troubled war photographer who arrives in “Asteroid City”, to support his brilliant son during a Junior Stargazer Convention. Scarlett Johansson is Midge Campbell, an actress who takes her work seriously. We spoke with both about their experiences working with Wes and each other. We then spoke with Adrien Brody who is also a veteran of Anderson’s movies. He plays the harried playwright of Asteroid City, while Jeffrey Wright plays the no-nonsense general responsible for honoring the Stargazer attendees. Both have some terrific stand-out sequences in the movie, so we talked about the play-like atmosphere of Anderson’s vision, some of Wright’s lengthy monologues, and more.
Finally, we talked to Hope Davis and Steven Park, who play two parents of the Junior Stargazers who find themselves immersed in a very surreal situation. We found out what it was like seeing the film after almost two years of post-production, working with the actors who play their children, and if they’re ready to be permanent members of Anderson’s troupe.
Asteroid City is now playing in limited release and expands on Friday. Read our review.
