A pair of first look images from the supernatural horror film Starve Acre feature characters played by Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark
More than a year and a half has gone by since we heard that Matt Smith (Last Night in Soho) and Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud) had signed on to star in the supernatural horror film Starve Acre, coming our way from BAFTA-nominated Apostasy creator Daniel Kokotajlo. We have some good news to share: Starve ACre is going to be screened In Competition at the BFI London Film Festival. You can see them at the bottom of this article. Based on a novel written by Andrew Michael Hurley. confirmationStarve ACre
has been described as a “brooding terror film” that follows
Richard, Juliette and their son Ewan, whose idyllic rural English life is turned upside down when he starts acting out-of-character. At Starve Acre, their remote family home, archaeologist Richard buries himself in exploring a folkloric myth that the ancient oak tree on their land is imbued with phenomenal powers, while Juliette turns to the local community to find some kind of peace. The project was developed with BBC Film and funded by BBC Film, Access Entertainment, and the BFI. Tessa Ross of House Productions and Juliette Howell are producing the film. Ross said we should expect Starve Acre to be “a genre defining modern classic”.
Copies of Hurley’s novel can be picked up at THIS LINK. Here’s a description: The worst possible thing has happened. Richard and Juliette Willoughby have lost their five-year-old son, Ewan. Starve Acre was once a lively house on the moors. Now it is a haunted one. Juliette, convinced that Ewan is still there in some form or another, seeks out the Beacons – a group of occultists who seem to be benevolent. Richard has been digging in the field opposite his house to find a legendary oak. He is trying to keep the boy from his mind. The author of the award-winning bestseller The Loney
has written a new, devastating novel. It is about how grief divides the world and how we can easily find horror when searching for hope. Leave a comment to let us know what you think. But first, take a look at these images of Smith & Clark’s characters.
