Kate Mckinnon’s Weird Barbie Doll from Greta Gerwig’s smash-hit film is available to pre-order from Mattel for a limited time!
Barbie fever is sweeping the nation, and Mattel is seizing every opportunity to cash in on the success of Greta Gerwig’s multi-million dollar earning film! Imagine you’re unfamiliar with the concept of Gerwig’s latest film. In that case, Barbie revolves around Margot Robbie’s character experiencing an existential crisis in a world overpopulated with different Ken and Barbie personas. Barbie World is a beach where Barbies are scientists, mermaids and Supreme Court Justices. Kens love to party. Kate McKinnon’s Weird Barbie is the only Barbie that stands out from the rest. Mattel is aware of the character’s popularity, and now they’re introducing an official Weird Barbie doll inspired by McKinnon’s character.
In the film America Ferrera’s Gloria meets McKinnon’s disfigured Barbie. She has a radical haircut, a mismatched wardrobe, and face tattoos that look like marker scribbles or stickers. She can easily do the splits thanks to intense play times, and believe me when I tell you; she’s seen some things and some stuff, man.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about Weird Barbie’s physicality, Gerwig credits production designer Sarah Greenwood with aspects of McKinnon’s physical performance.
“Sarah who did the set design was like, ‘I’ve made all these holes in the wall where she can put her real leg in, and then we’ll rig the other leg up,'” Gerwig said. “It was like a practical effect.”
Mattel’s Weird Barbie is available for pre-order until August 18. Here is the official description of this limited edition doll:
If there’s anyone who knows how to keep it weird, it’s Weird Barbie from Barbie The Movie. She also has short tousled hair and markings on her face to emulate a doll that’s been played with a little too much. Barbie
FOMO right now. Despite my best efforts, I have yet to watch the film. The film is sold out everywhere except the front row where I refuse to sit. I’m happy that the film is doing well. I still need people to leave my partner and me two seats in the front row. Let’s make it a reality, Universe!
