After two seasons that were polarizing, the third and last season of
Star trek: Picard
brought many fans back to their old selves. The show not only brought back the cast of Star trek: The Next Generation but also featured appearances by other Star trek stars from across the franchise. The Star trek: Picard authors couldn’t include everyone, but they seriously considered including Jake Sisko, son of Deep Space Nine Captain Benjamin Sisko. “We talked about Jake a lot in the season 3 writers’ room. And one of the ideas was… ‘Cause season 3’s a conspiracy, and people like Ro Laren and our heroes realizing that Changelings have infiltrated Starfleet… There’s a moment, actually, where Ro Laren says, “I even tried going to the press.” That was Jake Sisko,” Matalas explained.
Unfortunately, they just didn’t have the money to do it as the Jake Sisko story kept expanding the more they worked on it. “You’d cut to Jake Sisko who’s beginning to put together… his specialty is Starfleet, because, obviously, that’s what he’s focused on,“, Matalas explained. “He is noticing that strange things are happening. Reports are made, but then dismissed. He’s covering Frontier Day but there are a lot things about it that make no sense. The
Star trek: Picard creators admitted that the Jake Sisko tale had become its own show and they would not be able include it. Matalas did pitch the concept as a podcast when all was said and done, but hopes that they’ll be able to bring Jake back someday. The success of Picard‘s final season has led to fans campaigning for a continuation, dubbed Star Trek: Legacy. The series would be the perfect place for Jake Sisko’s return to the franchise. While the ongoing WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike has halted development, Paramount has a number of
Star trek projects under development, including a Starfleet Academy Series, a third season Starfleet: Strange New Worlds and a Section 31 film starring Michelle Yeoh.
