A trailer has been released for the horror romance My Animal, which is getting a theatrical and digital release next month

The horror romance My Animal – which stars Amandla Stenberg of Bodies Bodies Bodies (read our review of that one HERE) and Bobbi Salvor Menuez of Nocturnal Animals (which we reviewed at THIS LINK) – has been getting positive reviews and strong word of mouth from its festival screenings, and a wider audience will soon have the chance to see it. The film will receive a limited theatrical release in September on , and a digital release on , respectively. A trailer for My Animal is now available online. Paramount Global Content Distribution is bringing us My Animal. The film, directed by Jacqueline Castel from a screenplay written by Jae Matthews for her first feature film, is set in a small town in the north and tells the tale of Heather (Menuez), a teenage hockey goalie who falls in love with the newcomer to the town (Stenberg), a beautiful but tormented skater. The film

My animal has already confirmed that it is a story about a werewolf. Director Castel has also stated that “My animal

tells a story of inheritance, about what is passed down through our family and how it defines us as people.” It’s also a story of first love, and how it can be a catalyst for change and reveal what we need most. What made me unique also defined me and transformed me. The real battle that Heather’s character and I fought in our youth is to find the courage of self acceptance and self expression. The struggles of these characters show us what works and doesn’t in the quest for self-actualization and authenticity, as well as the courage that we must summon when faced with personal crisis and discrimination. In My animal I invite the audience to get lost in Heather Anderson’s otherness. In so doing, I not only compel the audience to feel connected to a character who at first may appear to have little in common with them, but also to learn the same lessons that she does: only by embracing the traits that make us outcasts, and even subject to scorn, do we learn to become fully ourselves. My Animal

was produced by Andrew Bronfman and Michael Solomon, with Stenberg and Menuez serving as executive producers.

Screenwriter Jae Matthews happens to be one half of the electronic music band Boy Harsher, which recently had songs on the soundtracks for the horror movies

Terrifier 2 and Halloween Ends. The score for the movie was composed by Augustus Muller. He is the other half of Boy Harsher. Will you be watching the movie next month? Please let us know what you think by leaving a message below.
