The Netflix documentary
Sly will tell the amazing story and career history of film legend Sylvester Stallone in his own words. Stallone acknowledged in a similar Netflix documentary about his action film rival Arnold Schwarzenegger, that he thought Arnold came out on top. However, the Cinderella story behind Stallone’s career is undeniable. It’s a beautiful example of a person who has made it big by believing in themselves and blazing their own trail. Audiences will be able to see Stallone’s story in
Sly when it comes to Netflix in November, but The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the documentary will be heading to the Toronto Film Festival.Sly is set to have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 16
at Roy Thomson Hall. The documentary will also close out the festival. The SAG-AFTRA TV & Film agreements do not cover the Netflix documentary, even though it is a Netflix film. Stallone is therefore allowed to attend the festival and walk the red carpet to promote the film. It has not yet been confirmed whether or not Stallone will be making an appearance. The description of the documentary reads, “For nearly 50 years, Sylvester Stallone has entertained millions with iconic characters and blockbuster franchises, from Rocky
to Rambo to The Expendables. This retrospective documentary offers an intimate look at the Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer, paralleling his inspirational underdog-story with the indelible characters he has brought to life.”“I feel very immature. I’ve never liked the phrase ‘Age gracefully’ or ‘Act your Age.’ How can you age gracefully, then? You’re not graceful. The documentary is directed by Springsteen On Broadway director Thom Zimny. Stallone admitted in the Schwarzenegger docuseries
Arnold that he felt he hadn’t surpassed the Austrian bodybuilder in terms of career or achievement. They were box office rivals during the 80s and 1990s, but remained friends. (They even invested together in a restaurant themed after tinseltown called Planet Hollywood.) Sly’s documentary almost feels like they are still competing, even though they have worked together in
The Escape Plan and The Extendables films. Stallone also made an appearance in the last two Guardians of the Galaxy films as well as The Suicide Squad, so no matter how things are going down with the rights to his Rocky franchise, Stallone has been able to adapt.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0-oEetzWXo
