It was a hard-fought battle, but in the end, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts emerged victorious with $60.5 million.

In a battle that came down to the wire, it appears that the autobots have the edge over the multiverse as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has emerged victorious over Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse in its inaugural weekend with an estimated $60.5 million against Spider-Man’s $55.4 million. Essentially in line with our predictions from Thursday (if we flip flop the titles as I thought Spider-Man would edge out Transformers.)

Chalk that up as a pretty big win for the Transformers franchise after the last Transformers film The Last Knight opened with just $44.6 million while the prequel spin off film BumbleBee opened with just $21.6 million. The difference between Beasts and Spiderman seems largely to be the premium theatres that Transformers took this week. According to Box Office Tracking Company EntTelligence, both films had similar ticket sales over the weekend (4.3 millions each). The extra $5, $10, or $15 really adds up. Tom Cruise does not like the fact that there are new films on premium screens every week. This is because we’re playing catch-up with the covid pandemic shutdowns and backlogs. The other Transformer films had good overseas numbers that kept them from being total box office bombs. With some pretty big competition in the coming weeks, this one may need big overseas numbers to be considered a profitable endeavor as its budget is reportedly in the $200 million range before marketing.For

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, its second week gross represents a solid hold from its $120.6 million opening, with just a 54% drop off, not bad for the longest animated film ever made from a major studio (Two hours and twenty minutes.) The word of mouth is great and many predict that it will win the Oscar for Best Animated Film, following in the footsteps of the original. The live action remake of The Little Mermaid,

came in third place with an additional $22.7 millions. This represents a 45% drop. The film is doing well in the United States, but it is not connecting with international audiences. It will struggle to make money in the long term. This is not a reflection on the quality of this update, as I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as the original animated classic, but a properly epic live action update.Coming in fourth place is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

with an additional $7.02million, proving that audiences will come out to see a goodcomic book movie. The Machine’s $575,000. The film with the highest average per screen (just over $20,000 per screen) is the 10th place winner. A24 continues to dominate the independent market by releasing the Asian film, PastLives which had a $520.772 weekend.
