The service merged Discovery+ and dropped the “HBO” from its name. Max is now known as Max, but the deep catalog of horror movies are still available on the service. So we have put together a list of the
Best Horror Movies on Max Right Now, but as always, you never know when movies will come and go, so if there’s anything on this list you’re dying to see, don’t wait – check it out now!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldxsR085Ze4
The most recent movie on this list,
The Menu had a good run at theatres but has been getting even more attention now that it’s streaming. The story follows Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult and their celebrity chef Ralph Fiennes as they visit a restaurant located on a private Island. Ralph Fiennes and his team are preparing a unique tasting menu. Some of their guests may not survive the night. The Menu, directed by Mark Mylod is a clever satire on pretentious chefs and cooking shows. It will keep you guessing about what the next course will be. And while there are plenty of fancy foods on display, it will leave most meat-eating viewers craving a classic cheeseburger.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbGTPIquuDMTHE EXORCIST (1973)
, directed by William Friedkin, was adapted from Blatty’s novel by William Peter Blatty. It has been a horror classic for over fifty years. It won Oscars for Best Sound and Best Adapted Screenplay. So check it out on Max and marvel at it.

. Some people hate it. Some people say you shouldn’t even try to watch it. In our opinion, any film about a man capturing a second man and surgically changing him into a walrus creature must be seen at least one time. If you like it, watch it again. This twisted tale, written and directed by Kevin Smith features great performances from Michael Parks and Justin Long. Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment also give excellent performances. Johnny Depp gives a bizarre performance.
Tusk, a horror film based on a hoax ad for a roommate and a comedy podcast conversation, is actually pretty good. And that walrus creature is an unforgettable sight.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5AYMHewkk4THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (1986) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
… but for me, this is one of the most brilliant, gleefully entertaining sequels ever made. A former lawman and a female DJ team up to find Leatherface’s family in the bowels an old theme park. Leatherface falls for the DJ and experiences a cleverly written case of unrequited love while their co-stars chew the scenery and compete to see who go can further over-the-top.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l8wTz2Gm5gCHILD’S PLAY (1988) People have mocked slasher icon Chucky for his small stature over the years and some of his sequels have leaned further into comedy than horror, but when you go back and watch the 1988 film
and see how director Tom Holland and screenwriter Don Mancini (with script revisions from Holland and John Lafia) first introduced the character, it’s no surprise he has stuck around as a genre icon. Holland made this killer doll, inhabited by the soul of a serial killer, come off as a real threat, a slasher who can take people down just as well as killers many times his size.

(which did earn Cody an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay) with the horror movie
Jennifer’s Body. Megan Fox stars in the film directed by Karyn Kusema, written by Cody and produced by Reitman. The movie is based on the novel by Karyn Kusema. It’s now up to Needy (Amanda Seyfried), her best friend, to stop Jennifer’s murder spree. Jennifer’s Body was underappreciated at the time of its release, but thankfully has been gaining in popularity as the years have gone by.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dUpZVH6lKEPREDATOR (1987)Some may argue that John McTiernan’s
doesn’t belong on a horror list, but I’m easy-going when it comes to categorizing films and feel that
Predator deserves a spot on this list because it’s basically a slasher movie where the victims just happen to be heavily armed. The alien Predator is a slasher who kills the mercenaries one by one. Irvin S.Yeaworth, Jr., who wanted to make religious-themed films, surprised everyone by creating one of the most iconic creatures of the genre. He had $100,000 and a batch red-colored silicone. The Blob may not look frightening, but it is still entertaining and charming. The fun begins as soon as the movie starts and that unforgettable theme song kicks in. A Steven Spielberg production, this one was directed by Joe Dante, who had previously directed
Piranha, Spielberg’s favorite Jaws
Gremlins
is a nice blend of creepy creature moments and silly comedy, making it one of the best options to show a youngster who is just starting to get into the horror genre. You can actually have a major Gremlins marathon on Max, as they also have the sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch and the animated prequel series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996) In 1988, FX artist Robert Kurtzman hired an unknown writer named Quentin Tarantino to turn his treatment From DuskTill Dawn into a screenplay. This was the first time Tarantino had ever been paid to write anything. Tarantino, who had just won an Oscar, decided to team up Robert Rodriguez and bring from Dusk Till Dawn
on the screen. This collaboration resulted into one of my favorite movies. The first half is a straight-forward crime thriller. It follows two criminal brothers (George Clooney, Tarantino) as they are on the run and take a family hostage (Harvey Keitel Juliette Lewis Ernest Liu) to help them reach Mexico. The brothers were supposed to meet up with some associates in a strip-club called the Titty Twister, but when they arrive, “all Hell breaks loose,” as Tarantino’s screenplay said, and the film becomes an action-packed thriller. It’s an incredibly entertaining film, with characters that are awesome battling some very weird and freaky creatures. Comment below if you think there’s any horror movies we missed!
