, and that was COVID-19. As the release date of Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One approaches, director Christopher McQuarrie defends Tom Cruise’s 2020 CoVID rant. “That all happened during a complicated and uncertain time…Obviously we’re grateful that the people took it in the way it was intended. We fought to keep the film industry alive, to keep people employed, to fight for the studio and cinemas. And we still do. We’re still doing it. I’m glad people understood what the intention was behind it.”In Dec 2020, audio of Tom Cruise berating crew members for breaking COVID Guidelines, especially social distancing, leaked. “They’re making movies in Hollywood right now because of us!” They believe in what we do! I’m talking to every studio, insurance company, producer, and they are looking at us, and using us, at night. You motherf*ckers, we are creating thousands of new jobs. I never want to see that again! Ever! If I see you doing it again, then you’re f*cking out…And if anyone else in this crew does it…that’s it…that’s it! No apologies. Tell it to those who are losing their homes because of the shutdown of our industry. It won’t put food on the table or pay for college education. The future of this f*cking industry! The future of this f*cking industry!” Production had previously been halted in October due to a dozen people getting COVID.
