Scarlett and Gwynth Johansson say they’re done the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and discuss Iron Man 2 rumors.
Don’t expect Black Widow and Pepper Potts will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe any time soon, if at all. According to Scarlett Johansson, and Gwyneth paltrow, the MCU is over. Johansson and Paltrow spoke with Paltrow in The Goop podcast about “clean beauty,” how she stays off social media, the lessons she’s learned through her marriage, and yes, their time in the MCU. Paltrow and Johansson worked together on 2010’s Iron Man 2. Rumors circulated that the two did not get along. Now, they’re here to set the record straight.“People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t get along on ‘Iron Man’?”
Paltrow recalls during the interview.“Is that a rumor?”
Johansson responded, sounding genuinely surprised. “You were so nice to be around on that film. I was so terrified. You were so nice! You could have been terrible. I was way out of my comfort zones on that film. Plus, you had established such deep friendships.” Plus, you had established such deep friendships.”Paltrow told Johansson the
Iron Man cast was “so psyched you were there,” adding, “I was so happy to have another woman around.”When
Iron Man 2 was released, the MCU did not feature as many women as it does now. The MCU has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. Johansson said, “You kept telling me this,”. Then I experienced it later. When I did ‘Avengers,’ I was one of the few
… it was like a big sausage party.”Paltrow told Johansson she could relate and felt the same when she walked onto the Iron Man[women] set. Paltrow said it was strange to see so few females participating in the launch a cinematic world. Paltrow says it was fun to be part of something that resonated with people so deeply culturally.
“I had never done that kind of blockbuster franchise either. But then you went on and did all of those huge films.” But then you went on and did all of those huge films.”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGT3Utkd56IThe duo also addressed their MCU futures, and neither appears eager to return for more superhero shenanigans.
“I’m done,” Johansson confirmed. “Chapter has ended. I did everything I was supposed to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”Johansson asked Paltrow if she was done playing Pepper Potts, to which she said,
“I think you may come back at some point,”
Johansson quipped.“Really?” Paltrow said.
“A 64-year old Pepper Potts?” How wonderful.” “100% this is happening. I can see it. Break out that wig, baby,”
Johansson half-joked. Break out that wig, baby,” Johansson half-joked.
Paltrow continued the discussion by saying she thinks she’s too old to climb into the Rescue suit for another film. Paltrow also said that her cameo in Avengers Endgame was more of a favour than a desire for her to return to this world. Let Natasha rest, and concentrate on new characters. Pepper is also a possibility, but Paltrow will have to be convinced to take on the role. I agree that it’s best for the MCU not to dwell on the past and let these characters be forgotten.
